Today's activity included a close reading of a text called "The Science Spot" - students were to ready for details and annotate the text. This wraps up all of the new information for this unit.

During early release we completed the wind notes and most students completed the unequal heating lab. 3rd period has not yet done the lab. The board in class says the lab will be due on Friday March 7, but that date will be extended in order to give 3rd period time to complete the lab. Tybee is Monday! Please arrive between 6:15 and 6:45am - we will leave NO LATER than 7am. Any changes will be posted on the blog.

Homework:
Monday: finished trivia game to review for test, study guide posted on website Tuesday: Convection Current lab, study guide passed out - complete for HW. Wednesday: Oceans test. HW is to review ocean notes, as test grades were lower than normal Thursday: Ms. Shaver out. Students worked individually or in pairs on review of oceans material Friday: Went over test, discussed mastery, discussed BYOD (2, 3, 4 only). New mastery procedureStudents will continue to have the opportunity to complete mastery for low test grades. However, the process will now include more required preparation for students. The mastery for the most recent test is below.
Our Tybee trip has been rescheduled for March 3-5! We are so thrilled that the rescheduling worked. Hopefully it is still good for all of you! It's hard to believe we have already missed 7 days of school this semester due to this crazy winter weather. Speaking of weather, we will begin our meteorology unit as soon as we finish up oceans. Our oceans test is Wednesday. Last Monday and today students played trivia to help prepare for Wednesday's test. The questions used are posted below: A study guide will be given out tomorrow in class:
Hi parents-
Unfortunately, tomorrow's trip to Tybee Island is cancelled. The extended forecast predicts we will not be able to drive back Wednesday, and would therefore be stuck for at least one if not more nights. PLEASE email ME ASAP so I know you received the message. Please also share this message with others on the team. I want to be sure everyone is aware. I will work on the possibility of a reschedule as soon as possible. We hate to make this decision, but everyone's safety is the priority here. Thanks for your understanding. Ms. Shaver Some students not completing assignments:Parents: Today I did a homework check and was sad to learn that several students did not complete the work. The assignment should have taken somewhere from 15-30 minutes for most students. This built on the previous night's homework and the day's classwork. While this will not be factored into the average, any work assigned plays a vital role in the steps to learning. We have a test a week from tomorrow, but given the Tybee trip next week, there are only 2 days of class where I'll be working with the entire group before the exam. Please consider helping me out and having a conversation with your child about homework and whether or not it is being done. If you ever have questions about an assignment, please feel free to email me. I often email back in the same evening depending on the time of your email. Tonight's homework is to answer the questions in the IT, page 269-278. No annotations are needed. The pages should be familiar due to the homework and classwork assigned this week. Thanks for your attention to this! Field Trip Update:If students take any medications - prescription or over the counter - they must be given to an adult. Please label all medications and include directions - a ziplock bag with the student's name is perfect for this. Please send those to me at school Friday or deliver them to me Monday morning.
If you have an epipen for any allergies, an inhaler, cough medicine - ANYTHING - I need this from you. After last night's book walk and today's scavenger hunt, you should be increasingly familiar with the waves, currents, and tides content. For homework tonight, answer the IT questions between pages 259-268. If a couple give you trouble, be sure to ask about them in class tomorrow! Here is the scavenger hunt from today:
There is a dance Thursday. Tomorrow is the last day to purchase tickets, and you MUST have a signed permission slip. If you lost yours, here it is:
Book walk:
For tonight's homework, you will complete a book walk. A book walk is a preview of the next day's material. For the assigned pages:
If something interests you, go into the text and read about it. However, this is not necessary. You are not required to read the majority of the body of the text, to annotate, or to answer any of the questions. Do this for pages 259-278 (Chapter 14) |
