The interim assessments have been postponed by the county. When they become available, the test will be administered. This date is currently unknown by the school, but we are optimistic that it will be within the next 1-2 weeks. As more information is available, it will be relayed.

Today we continued ecology survivor - looking at the ENTIRE energy resources chapter.
We added the following information to page 52 in our notebooks: Ways to conserve soil: 1. Plate things! Roots hold soil in place and prevent erosion. 2. Rotate crops to prevent overuse of minerals which can exhaust soil. 3. Conservation plowing - farmers leave roots in the ground between plantings to prevent erosion. 4. Contour plowing - farmers follow the shape of the land to prevent erosion 5. Terracing - making "stairs" out of a hillside in order to plant and prevent erosion 6. Silt fences can help decrease erosion during construction Did you read the Current Science today about mummies? Check out this link to learn more about mummification, and even play some interactive games!
http://oi.uchicago.edu/OI/MUS/ED/kids.html Unfortunately, tomorrow's garden event is cancelled. Hopefully we will have the opportunity to do a planting later in the fall. I will keep the kids AND families posted
Today we took a quiz, as we do every Friday. Students also turned in their research plans for science fair.
Midterms are next week - Thursday and Friday. I am attaching a study guide, but will give it out in class Monday. If you want to start working on it, go ahead and answer the questions on notebook paper. We haven't learned ALL of it yet, but pretty close. Over the weekend, read IT pages 81-86 and use the text codes (bookmark) to circle, question, star, etc. as you go. You don't need to answer the questions yet, but you may start working on them if you like. They will help you review. A month ago students were introduced to the idea of science fair. We have spent over a week in class discussing the requirements, expectations, and the actual "how" of science fair. There are some presentations available on the science fair website to help with the identification of variables as well as writing a hypothesis. Here is the link in case you are struggling to find it: http://richardssciencefair.weebly.com/dos-and-donts-of-science-fair.html The research plan is basically a glorified pre-lab report. The parent sign-off is required in order be sure there is parent approval, as there is often at least a small monetary commitment. The documents below are downloadable and should be easily edited for students to create a research plan. Don't forget you need to have the SIGNED research plan worksheet from your parents! It is attached below.
Some due dates have CHANGED! See below:
Below, I have attached the file for replacement grades. Please note the due dates on them are no longer valid.
