The time has come for your first mini-project :) I would like for you to:
Today's class and homework for tonightIn class today we are adding in a few different items: the Mohs Hardness Scale (pg 11), Common Uses of Minerals Chart (found on pg 78 in the online textbook, pg 11 in your notebook, under the scale), and Special Properties of Minerals (pg 12). Be sure to color the Mohs Scale and have the common use chart completely filled out.
Today in class we completed "What is a Mineral" (p10) and "Properties of a Mineral" (p10). Homework tonight is to make sure that everything on page 10 is colored. Under the flaps: Most of you have left your notebooks with me to be graded over the weekend. If that's you, try and practice the chant without words over the weekend. If you have your notebook and IT with you, consider spending some time studying, especially if you thought today's quiz was hard.
Enjoy your weekend and get ready for another full week of learning. Our first test will be Friday, August 30, and we will continue to have our weekly Friday quizzes. Don't forget tonight's flaps! ALL homework will be checked tomorrow. Don't forget that tomorrow is our first quiz (and first grade) of the year! STUDY!
Some students are having trouble recalling the proper way to glue items into your notebook. Here is a visual! For tonight's homework, you are to create vocabulary flaps. They are glued on pages 6 and 7 in your notebook. They should look something like this as you are getting started: Properly made flaps have the following format:
Tonight you have 8 words and tomorrow you will have 8 more.
DO NOT USE THE GLOSSARY! READ AND REREAD THE TEXT!If you didn't know, there are baby pandas at Zoo Atlanta! They are now officially one month old. Cute, right? You can look at the Pandacam 24 hours a day if you want to see some cute panda action! Today we received several new students. New students, be sure to look back in the blog for homework you may have missed. Please have everything completed by class time Wednesday.
During class, we finished our pretest. Several students finished early and had the opportunity to start (and maybe even complete) tonight's homework! HW: IT pages 45-50 - This is Ch 3 Section 3. Also, review the pages already completed in the IT (All of Chapter 3). You will have a quiz Friday. Don't forget that tutoring is every Wednesday morning at 8:15! Today students took the pretest for science. Interactive textbooks (IT from here on out - a cross between a textbook and workbook) were passed out. The IT can also be accessed through the online textbook, which is part of my eCLASS. No excuses! :)
HW:
Today was a general "welcome to science" - students received a syllabus and that is to be signed a returned tomorrow. Students are also to complete "Getting to Know You" for tomorrow, as well as number ALL pages in one composition book, front and back, starting with the very first page. Tomorrow we will take our pretest for the year, and on Monday we will dive in head first to geology! PLEASE sign up for Remind101 to receive homework texts and announcements.
