The entire 6th grade is going to the aquarium in January! This is going to be a great experience and we're going to get to do things beyond a normal visit to the Georgia Aquarium. Each team has a designated day, as the aquarium can't accommodate all of us at once. This trip is completely separate from our Rock Eagle trip in May. Rock Eagle is something special that we get to do as a team, but the aquarium is for all 6th grade students.
Please write checks separately for the Rock Eagle trip and the Aquarium trip. Our first due date for Rock Eagle money is coming up in two weeks. Parents, even if you can't make a full payment ($25 or more) please consider at least sending in $5 or $10 to let me know your intention for your child to attend. I will also take permission slips without money. Nov 12 is the due date, but I am happy to take money sooner. It's never too soon to make a payment or send a permission slip. Any payment will be applied to your account as soon as it is received. If you have questions, please contact me. I'm happy to work out other payment plans if none of my options work for you, but I do need to have at least 1/3 of the cost of the trip before we leave for winter break in December. Also, if you are in a position where you can provide a partial scholarship for another student, donations are welcome. We are currently working out details for a fundraiser to help offset the cost as much as possible. Details on that later.
Both trips are going to be truly unforgettable experiences and are worth the expense. The total cost for the year's field trips is $120 - just $10/month. I suggested students save slushie money or ice cream money to help pay for the trips - maybe even refrain from purchasing songs on iTunes and put that money toward a trip. Authentic learning can be hard to come by, so it's amazing that our students have two chances to get out in the world and experience SCIENCE! Other content areas will also be incorporated into the trips.
Thanks for your support and enthusiasm!
Below, find a copy of the permission slip. Students will receive a GREEN permission slip in science class tomorrow.
